Ombré Hair
The ombré hair trend has been popular for a while now. The celebrity I think who does it best has to be Drew Barrymore. She proves it looks great unkept and backcombed as well as perfectly groomed and glamourous. It's so simple to do - you don't have to spend a lot at the hairdressers and if it goes wrong its just your ends so you can easily dye it out. I think you have to really have naturally dark hair to achieve the best results and that way it'll be easier to dye it back to your original colour if you get bored of it. Often I find dark hair can wash people out. Ombréing will add life into limp or dull hair as well as bringing out the colour in your complexion. I don't recommend ombréing your hair if you have dyed reddy brown hair as it'll end up coming out orange. Trust me on this one!
If you're naturally mousey like me there is also the option of ombréing your hair with a pastel shade. This is a massive look for this spring/summer thanks to Topshop's recent lookbook. Pastel tones to your hair will completely transform your look! If I didn't have to work in an office environment I would add a lilac shade to the ends of my locks without a second thought.
HOW TO OMBRE YOUR HAIR:
1. Buy a blonde hair dye from your local chemist. If your hair is really dark you don't want to go too light as it can look a little trashy. Also if you don't want it a warm or brassy colour make sure you get an ash blonde. If you're going for the pastel ombré you'll need hair bleach first to lighten the ends to achieve the best results. I've only ever come across pastel hair dyes in "emo" shops in the North Laines in Brighton or Camden so good luck in your search for that! I'm sure Topshop will be doing a pastel hair dye range soon though.
2. Follow the hair dye instructions including the skin test and hair strand test so you know how long to leave it on for.
3. When applying to your hair only add the dye to the ends. To achieve this half you hair from the back as if you were going to do pig tails, load the dye onto the gloves and comb your fingers through your ends. A comb will come in useful but please make sure its plastic and not metalic! If you have shorter layers it looks great if you get some on the end of those but try not to get the dye above eye level.
4. After washing it out if you want it lighter apply again or if you want to add pastel dye now is the time - don't forget to make sure you cover all of the bleached ends else it will look a bit patchy!
5. Enjoy your new ombréd hair and a new fresh look!
