Dr Martens Flash Sandal*

So these are now my favourite shoe of choice! Comfy, nice thick sole (I could do with the extra height!) and stylish! Off to Glastonbury next week and I think I'm going to have to pack them, so long as the weather holds up. I'll be packing some wellies as well just in case. I've been busy running around Brighton getting all my supplies for the festivals, I've got dry shampoo a plenty, a backpack full of supplies and tomorrow I'm getting the tent out to check its all ready to go.

Anyone else off to Glastonbury next week?!

Yes! It is finally summer and I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forwards to hitting the beach in my bikini. I don't have any holidays planned yet, but there's always hope. Greece, Italy, in fact anywhere in the Mediterranean right now would be perfect...

My favourite of these three is the horse print bikini as it has more of a landscape print on it. I think that makes it a lot more subtle than the others and would go great with a nice lacy beach kaftan. The others are a bit more safari themed, would look great with a straw hat and gladiator sandals.

Have you got your summer bikini yet?

Google Friend Connect is staying

If you, like me, have been a fan of Blogger and it's oh-so-easy to use platform these last few years, you may have been shocked to learn that the little box of friendly faces you see in your sidebar would be disappearing on the 1st July.

Now I have seen countless blog posts on this by a range of my favourite fashion bloggers and I can happily say that information was incorrect! Google Friend Connect isn't going anywhere, its staying put! In fact so is the Blogger Reading List at the bottom of your dashboard.

Phew! Because for a minute there I was seriously considering switching to Wordpress, and since I've only just designed this new layout I didn't fancy spending weeks getting a headache over blog platform migration.

So what is disappearing?

The only thing that is actually going is Google Reader, which is this. If you follow blogs via Google Friend Connect you automatically have those blogs appearing in your Blogger Reading List (on your Blogger Dashboard) and in Google Reader. However, once Google Reader is discontinued you'll still have those blogs appearing on your Blogger Reading List on your dashboard.

So you can see where all the confusion has come from! Thankfully, if you're following blogs like this via Google Friend Connect you have nothing to worry about, and if you have a blog on Blogger you don't have to fret about your followers disappearing either!

Please be aware that if you do only follow blogs on Google Reader then you should look for an alternative reader platform as this will be disappearing from 1st July.

Alternative blog readers

If you do use Google Reader you can follow blogs to appear in similar readers via the following methods:

  • Google Friend Connect (you can follow this blog via this on the left hand side).
  • Bloglovin (you can follow this blog here if you'd like).
  • Flipboard for tablets and smart phones is a great alternative, and is rather like reading a magazine.
  • Follow via social media! Bloggers are always updating their social platforms with updates about their blogs. Follow via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc. You can follow my blog via social media if you click on the buttons on the top right.

What does the future hold?

Although Google Friend Connect is not going away 1st July, it may disappear in the future. Google has come a long way since I've started this blog and Blogger hasn't really changed that drastically. I love the rawness of it though, I wouldn't have been able to design this template otherwise. I'm kind of hoping they'll update Google Friend Connect to be better connected with Google+ rather then losing it altogether.

There are also rumours flying around that RSS Feedburner may be going soon too. It does seem very out of date, and difficult to personalize, so I wouldn't be surprised. Moving on I'd consider creating weekly newsletters instead of offering a RSS feed. A little weekly email packed full of extra visual goodies. Sound good?

Perhaps I will migrate to Wordpress in the next coming months. Having worked on various blogs in Wordpress as well, I do feel as if Blogger is missing something now and fashion blogs especially usually start off in Blogger, but eventually migrate to Wordpress for many different reasons.

I really hope you have found this blog post useful. I know it has been a little off topic, this being a fashion blog in all. I have seen a lot of bloggers panicking about this and I just wanted to let you all know, its all going to be okay.

5 Wants for the Festivals

Netvouchercodes.co.uk asked me to put together some items from brands they do vouchers for, so I decided to put together a little collection of things I would take with me to the upcoming festivals.

I know the prints are a little crazy, but diluted with a plainer outfit or accessories I think they'd look very cool. Its no secret I love wearing playsuits - they're much more comfortable than dresses and means that I'm not constantly worried about the wind blowing my skirt up. The Marylin look isn't very me.

You can tell I was being a little optimistic with the footwear. White sneakers to a muddy festival? Am I joking? If its really warm (and sometimes, festivals can get baking) the fields will be dry and then I'll be thankful to a nice pair of shoes to keep my feet comfortable throughout the day. Wellies are brilliant, but wear them too many days in a row and your feet will never look the same again.

Whats on your wishlist for upcoming festivals?

Dr Martens Brighton Store Opening Event

Dr Martens Brighton Store Opening event

Yesterday I got the chance to attend the Dr Martens new store opening event in Brighton. It was an amazing event with lots of good music, cocktails, ice cream and fish and chips! Although I'm not the "typical" Dr Marten wearer I did find some of the pairs very appealing, especially the sandals which looked like they'd be pretty darn comfortable.

Its so great to get invited to fashion events in my home town. Brighton really does have an amazing sense of style and no where quite does the "Dr Marten" look quite like Brighton. Talking of which, Dr Marten have a style competition on at the moment to find Brighton's fashion icon. Keep your eyes peeled for style scouts on the prowl snapping street style shots of Dr Marten clad tourists, day trippers and locals throughout June.

What I'd Wear to the Races

1. ASOS, £8.00 2. New Look, £7.99 3. French Connection, £11.99
4. Warehouse, £90.00 5. Oasis, £35.00 6. Fashion Union, £18.00

The races are one of those places where you can dress for the occasion, but often you can feel a little over dressed. I always try and dress down dressed up looks with just simple accessories and layering. After all, you don't want to end up featured on a what not to wear list, which is so easy to do some where like Royal Ascot.

Above is what I would wear for the races, something to show I've made an effort, but not too much that I feel over dressed. I have a little habit of teaming any evening dress I own with a slouchy jumper, to dress it down a little bit. I also always wear flats, no matter what. I've tried wearing heels, but over this last year or so I've fallen out of love with them, and flats always help bring a flashy outfit down to earth. Your feet with thank you later after you've been standing around all day too! Fancy hats and fascinators are also a big no of mine as I have the smallest head they just end up looking silly on me, so I would settle for a head band instead.

Do you go to the races? If so, what do you wear?

I'm wearing a vintage black beaded jumper, free people hawaiian floral cropped jeans*, cow wolf necklace, urban outfitters wolf ring, new look silver and turquoise bracelets and new look black suede pointed pumps.

These are some more snaps from my trip in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago. Since I've got back I've really missed the mountains. I guess the best thing about living in England is being surrounded by all these beautiful, wonderful and unique countries, and that they're only a short plane journey away! Hopefully it won't be too long until the next trip.

I have a few events this week I'm going to so if you follow me on Twitter and Instagram you'll be seeing lots of updates!

Virgin Experience Days contacted me to share with my readers the opportunity to win a day of bungee jumping, a rigid inflatable boat ride along the Thames and a meal for two at the May Fair Hotel. Interested? All you have to do to enter is click here and enter your details along with the entry code SL12. Good luck!
